This web site is of an online effort to help survivalists and preppers to become more knowledgeable about radio communications systems. We have put this site up up help others to learn about radio communications to repay everyone for the information that we have gained concerning survival techniques, "prepping", and other issues we all need to know and learn.

Hopefully this web site, and others that we are linked to will be a good resource to those seeking to learn about communicating by radio. Radio systems aren't really all that complex, all you need is a radio and an antenna and you are good to go. Of course there are other issues as well but the basic building blocks of a communications system consist of just those two components. Everything else is there to support these two items.

So now to start with you need to have a tablet or notepad and something to write with nearby as you will need to make some notes from time. You need to figure out first of all whether you will need communications for fixed, mobile or portable operations. Here is a short break down of these three types of radio communications:

FIXED BASE

Pretty self-explanatory, you have your radio in a building or structure of sorts and the antenna, or antennas, will be fixed to the structure in a more permanent fashion.

PORTABLE OPERATION

This covers a wide range of operations and can be down with vehicles such as RV's or just a tent or screened covering out. Antennas are generally wires hanging from trees, structures or even pushup poles.

MOBILE OPERATION

While this might appear elementary running a mobile operation can be from a car, van, truck , semi, or an RV. A mobile operation can also be pressed into service as a portable radio system.
